Great Things Happening!

Mentors

Eugene Field currently has over 200 mentors/lunch buddies coming on a weekly and bi-weekly basis to spend  quality one-on-one time with a Eugene Field student. Time is spent reading, playing, loving and encouraging. Our kids absolutely love having an adult who is “their” friend and wants to see them succeed. Our mentors have had a dramatic impact in the student body’s overall countenance, behavior improvement, and determination to succeed in the classroom. A truly invaluable aspect to what we are striving for.

Test Scores

Five years ago Eugene Field students performed so low on state test they were among the poorest performing schools in the entire state of Oklahoma. In response to great leadership, education, and love received through the staff, mentors, and EF Foundation our students recently outperformed some of the most well known schools in the town and state. Their achievements did not go unnoticed landing them the cover of the Tulsa World and netting Principal Cindi Hemm administrator of the year for Tulsa Public Schools.

Sports

Soccer

Heading into our third season, the Eugene Field Soccer program has proved one of our best tools for parent involvement and school spirit. Averaging 50 kids per season, 4th and 5th grade boys and girls alike, are learning the fundamentals of teamwork, discipline, and the relationship between academics and athletics. All of our teams continue to grow in skill and stature and some of our stars have been picked up to play on more competitive teams. It is such a blast to root for them every weekend in the Spring and Fall and the kids unquestioningly LOVE IT!

The EF Foundation is responsible for coaches, jerseys, trophies, cleats, and transportation.

Basketball

In its first season of play, both 3rd grade boys teams are playing “lights out” basketball. Our Blue team is undefeated and our White team only has one loss. Basketball has also proved a great tool for parent involvement and every day there are more request for the opportunity of older and younger students to play.

Like soccer, The EF foundation is responsible for coaches, jerseys, trophies, cleats, and transportation.

The Harvest

Founded by Oil and Gas man and Tulsa native, Clark Millspaugh, The Harvest has been one of the most exciting additions to the Eugene Field campus and community. Located in two refurbished buildings just east of the Eugene Field campus, The Harvest houses a non-profit grocery store, Global Gardens class room, teaching kitchen, Color Me True and Abbas Family workshop, as well as dorms for college aged members of the mission minded Transit team.

Arts

Two times a week you can find EF Students honing their skills on the the violin, cello, and classical guitar. Guided by volunteer teachers and instructors Eugene Field’s finest never stop amazing those in their presence. On top of multiple weekly visits to Ms. Duncan’s art class and Ms. Christie’s music and drama class, EF students have been able to perform on special occasion and even experience the ballet at Tulsa’s own Performing Arts Center.

Transit

Partnered with Believers Church and The Harvest, the Transit team is made up 6-8 mission minded college age young men and women whose sole purpose is to love the children and families of the Eugene Field Community and to represent Jesus Christ as they serve. The team has individuals coaching basketball, mentoring students, running Kids for Christ Club, and helping out with the Arts. They have been a huge blessing to the teachers, students, and staff.

Global Gardens

Developed by a ray of sunshine known as Heather Oakley, Global Gardens is a during/after school program designed to teach multiple facets of gardening, community, health, and science. The Global Gardens program is led by Lindsey Smith at Eugene Field and has recieved statewide and national recognition for its unorthodox approach to teaching, relationship building, and conflict resolution. By far one of our greatest teaching tools.
